What’s a Sharkspoon?
Way back when…
A breakfast staple served by John’s Grandma Baker was grapefruit. Sweet, sour, delicious, and hazardous whenever it squirts in your eye. Two truths about grapefruit – 1) Never eat them after you brush your teeth, and 2) you can’t eat them with just any ol’ spoon, right? That’s why Grandma’s kitchen drawer was full of special grapefruit spoons. You know, the small spoons with the jagged edges. To young John and his little brothers, the serrations resembled the teeth of a shark. Hence, a grapefruit spoon is better known, in the Lopez household, as a Sharkspoon.
